Two Rivers Magnet Middle School

Two Rivers Magnet Middle School is a magnet school located in East Hartford, Connecticut. It is named for its location, where the Hockanum River discharges into the Connecticut River. It currently serves grades 6 - 8 with approximately 600 students. Two Rivers admits 44 students, randomly chosen, from each of the five towns it serves: Glastonbury, East Hartford, Manchester, South Windsor, and Hartford. Any remaining seats are filled from other towns on a lottery basis. The school focuses on Science and Technology, but it offers courses in Music, Art, Language Arts, Math, and Spanish as well. Two Rivers is also a NASA Explorer School, one of 25 in the nation, and receives grants and opportunities relating to NASA and spaceflight. There is also a running club that runs in local races (the Santa's Run in Glastonbury and the Race for the Cure in Hartford), a jazz band, a green team, and more. The building consists of three floors. The first floor holds the gym, offices, nurse, band rooms, and cafeteria. On the second floor is the media center and the sixth grade classrooms, plus some spare classrooms for LIT and MIT, programs that help students that may be struggling with their classes. Grades seven and eight, and the exploratory science and art rooms, are on the third floor. There is one main stairwell that is painted dark blue, plus two smaller back stairwells. There is also a faculty-only elevator. The dress code is black polo shirts with the Two Rivers logo, a belt, and khaki pants. This must be worn for special occasions such as concerts and field trips. For normal days, there are black, blue, navy, and red shirts available, along with khaki, black, and navy pants.
